Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals

EVENING MEALS
While Dégagé is blessed to have consistent groups that cover the serving needs for dinners, occasionally we need individuals or groups to substitute for groups that are not able to make their regularly scheduled night. If you would like to volunteer to serve dinner, you can be added to our substitute list and will be contacted whenever we need help in the kitchen.

MORNING KITCHEN VOLUNTEER
A low-cost breakfast is served in Degage’s dining room each morning. Volunteers assist by preparing the food, running the cash register, and serving the food. The time commitment for this volunteer position is from 8:15-10:30 a.m. Coffee servers are also needed from 7:00-8:15 a.m.

HYGIENE DESK ATTENDANT
The hygiene desk volunteer works with the Life Enrichment Center Floor Supervisor to assist patrons utilizing our showers, laundry facilities, mail delivery, and lockers. Volunteers in this position will have close interaction with the patrons. Volunteers are needed from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. on weekdays.

RESOURCE OFFICE VOLUNTEER
Volunteers in the resource office meet with patrons to answer questions and walk alongside them as they seek access to services in Grand Rapids. Training is given so that the volunteer can be effective in meeting patrons’ needs. A minimum 9 month commitment is needed for this role. 8:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

ID OFFICE VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are needed to assist patrons who are seeking help in securing birth certificates and State of Michigan ID cards. Volunteers are needed from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. on weekdays.

HELP DESK ATTENDANT
Volunteers are needed to welcome patrons to the second floor, direct them to services on that floor, and record their visits in the computer. Volunteers are needed from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. on weekdays. 8:30 – 11:30 a. m. on Saturdays.

WOMENS’ SHELTER ASSISTANTS
Caring women are needed to help in the Open Door in the evenings from 6:45-8:30pm.

PHONE RECEPTIONIST
A friendly volunteer is needed to answer the phones on weekdays. Morning and afternoon shifts are available.

PRAYER PARTNERS
Receive a weekly list of prayer requests from the staff at Dégagé. You may choose to have a list mailed to you each week or sent via email. Please email kim@degageministries.org with your address or call her at (616) 454-1661 ext 210 to be added to the list.
