Programs: Building Community

Dégagé finds great significance in providing opportunities for patrons to escape the monotony of everyday life on the street. Monthly, special events such as holiday parties, trips to the beach, fishing, a musical performance or a sporting event are offered. Local churches partner with us in providing these opportunities.

Monthly birthday parties are also a tradition. Dégagé Ministries, along with a few generous and committed volunteers, hold a birthday party on the last Tuesday of every month to celebrate all of the birthdays during the month. For some, this is their only birthday party; the only time that someone stops to recognize and celebrate that they have made it through another year of their life. It is a much-anticipated event.

During the party, the dining room is decorated with brightly-colored table cloths with hand-made birthday cards on each table. Each individual enjoys a lunch of pizza and birthday cake, as well as a "Birthday Bag" made from special donated items such as new socks, snacks, playing cards or other games.

Join us in the celebration by putting together a birthday bag for a patron. Fill it with fun items such as a deck of cards, candy and a puzzle book. Also include needed items such as t-shirts and socks. Contact Bonnie@DegageMinistries.org for more information.
